Many times we incur unexpected costs at the worst times. Sometimes we have to get a tooth removed unexpectedly or have to pay for a medication we didn’t know about. You may think they are completely unavoidable, but there are a few things you can do to reduce the chance of incurring those unexpected costs. We came up with easy ways to help reduce the chance of an expected cost and how to deal with it when it does happen.
Brush those teeth
Ever find yourself going to the dentist for them just to tell you to floss more because you have a cavity? When your insurance doesn’t cover those extra dentist appointments, that money will have to come out of your own pocket. Instead of spending the extra money, make it a priority to take good care of your teeth. Start by using the proper products for your teeth and going the extra mile. If you properly take care of your oral health, you are less likely to have unexpected dental cost.
Maintain a healthy diet
Eating healthy not only affects your body, but it also can affect your wallet. And I’m not talking buying the groceries. When you are fueling your body with the proper nutrition it needs you will be less likely to experience health issues like torn muscles, broken bones or even diabetes. Eating healthy will also help with your overall health and reduce the chance of getting sick. When your immune system is being fed the proper food it needs to run, you will be able to fight off more illnesses.
Build a savings account
This one isn’t so much about prevention, but more about protection. No matter what you do life happens and sometimes you are going to have cost you didn’t see coming. Instead of waiting until they come to know how to deal with them. Open a savings account or even just a car of money at home and every time you can put money in it. That way when an unexpected cost rolls around you will be prepared and won’t feel the financial strain as much.
Regular car maintenance
In order to avoid last minute car cost, get your car checked regularly when you know you would have the money to fix them. Now if you don’t want to take it in to get it fix, find someone who knows a little about cars and you can do the car check yourself. You can also save money by changing your oil yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and get a little dirty. It is way cheaper to repair things on your own then taking them in to get fixed.
